COURSE DESCRIPTION
Certificate III in Hospitality at QAT will equip you with a range of well-developed hospitality service, sales or operational skills and sound knowledge of industry operations. This qualification prepares you with well-rounded functional hospitality skills to suit specific roles and sectors in the industry through your choice of electives. You can choose to launch your hospitality career after taking this course or continue with further study. Either way you will gain skills that are in demand by the hospitality industry in restaurants, cafes and bars.
The Certificate 3 Guarantee Program provides a Queensland Government subsidy towards the training cost for eligible Participants undertaking an Australian Qualifications Framework certificate level III qualification, which can help you to get a job outcome or career progression. Training and assessment in this qualification is targeted at individuals seeking employment within the Hospitality industry.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
• Queensland resident aged 15 years or over who is no longer at school (with the exception of VET in Schools students)
• An Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), or a temporary resident with the necessary visa and on the pathway to permanent residency
• Must not have or be enrolled in a Certificate 3 level or higher qualification (not including qualifications completed at school and foundation skills training)

QUALIFICATION UNITS
The successful achievement of this qualification requires you to complete 15 units of competency. Completing placement is compulsory, and you will be expected to manage family and work commitments in order to complete your shifts. You are required to complete a minimum of 36 shifts of placement to satisfy this component of your qualification.

The SIT30616 Certificate III in Hospitality qualification covers a wide range of core hospitality topics including how to deliver outstanding customer service, suggestive selling techniques, handling customer complaints, Barista training, bar & beverage product knowledge and correct hospitality service techniques.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
• IELTS 5.5 or equivalent* (No band below 5.0)
• Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent in the student’s home country)*
• Students who have not completed high school must have relevant work experience or a qualification that indicate a likely success of course completion.
*Alternatively, students are required to take a pre-test before enrolment.
ASSESSMENTS
Skills and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you study at the Queensland Academy of Technology, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
