COURSE DESCRIPTION
Through your study time here at Queensland Academy of Technology, you will engage with our professional teachers, and learn about the development of the whole child. The holistic development covers intellectual, social, emotional, physical and educational needs of children under six years old. This qualification will empower you with the knowledge and practical experience required to work in the industry of early childhood education in Australia, with children, to support their learning, development, wellbeing, rights and safety. This course will build on your skills in curriculum planning care routines and understanding children’s cognitive development. As an educator you will be qualified to supervise staff and students and volunteers, implement programs for the children in an early years setting.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
• Queensland resident who is no longer at school
• An Australian or New Zealand citizen, or Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), or a temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency
• Must not have or be enrolled in a certificate IV or higher-level qualification (not including qualifications completed at school and foundations skills training)
• Must not have or be enrolled in a Certificate 3 level or higher qualification (not including qualifications completed at school and foundation skills training)
ASSESSMENTS
Skills and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you study at the Queensland Academy of Technology, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback.
Credit transfer is available for students who have successfully completed units of competency through a nationally recognised provided. Evidence of transcript will be requested prior to commencing the course.
QUALIFICATION UNITS
The successful achievement of this qualification requires you to complete 28 units of competency. Completing placement is compulsory, and you will be expected to manage family and work commitments in order to complete your shifts. You are required to complete a minimum of 240 hours of placement to satisfy this component of your qualification.
**Prior to work placement you are required to apply for a blue card (working with children check).

• IELTS 5.5 or equivalent* (No band below 5.0)
• Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent in the student’s home country)*
• Students who have not completed high school must have relevant work experience or a qualification that indicate a likely success of course completion.
*Alternatively, students are required to take a pre-test before enrolment.
